Displayed to the right is Excel Homes' Brockway cape model, (click thumbnail snapshot for full-size picture) situated at our office location and ready for viewing by walk-in inspection on weekdays or by appointment on weekends. This particular model has a first floor area encompassing more than twelve hundred square feet and, with a finished second floor, provides over two thousand square feet of living space. As presently designed, the Brockway has two bedrooms and one bathroom on the first floor but can easily be changed to accommodate a master bedroom, master bathroom and a large walk-in closet on the main floor and two very spacious bedrooms and a shared bathroom on the second floor.
The Brockway is only one in an extremely diverse collection of homes in the Excel Homes lineup. Additionally, displayed below is a photo gallery of recent OCC constructions. By following the previously mentioned procedure, you will be able to view the full-size photographs before continuing on to Excel's complete showcase of home illustrations and floor plans.

If you do not find the exact style of home or layout you seek, you have a number of choices by which you may decide to customize one of Excel's present models. First, however, you and Old Colony Construction's representative should discuss the type and structure of home you wish to build. Does your preference run to a ranch, cape, two-story, contemporary or perhaps a blending of styles? Careful consideration should be given to the number and location of the bedrooms and bathrooms, the size and shape of the kitchen and family living areas, not withstanding the actual orientation of the home. As far as possible, rooms with the greatest expected utilization should have a southernly exposure, thereby making greatest use of natural illumination and passive solar heating. If an attached, unheated garage is planned, it should always be located on either the east or west side of the home thereby providing an additional buffer against convection on that side of the house. The opposite perimeter wall should be utilized for bathroom(s) or closets and storage space, with a minimum usage of windows. No matter how energy efficient your choice of windows might be, a well insulated wall without windows will provide far greater thermal protection. According to the ACEEE, (American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy) a net savings of eight percent or more can be obtained on yearly energy costs by applying these simple steps to your new home. (For more helpful energy-saving tips, be sure to visit their website listed below.)
ACEEE.orgAfter perusing though Excel's line of standard plans, select the floor plan that most resembles the home you desire to build. With your representative, mark the changes and/or additions you would require. OCC will forward these changes to Excel for re-engineering. When the revised plans are submitted to you, review them and make any additional changes, if necessary, and your representative will, once again, forward them to Excel Homes. If adjustments are required to meet building codes or structural requirements, they will be done at this time. This process will be repeated until such time as you feel comfortable with the end result. OCC now has enough information to present you with a preliminary quote. At this point you may decide on upgrades to the house. This is where the representative can be most helpful. He has samples and catalogs of the myriad options Excel has to offer. Although Excel's option list is expansive, there may be an item not covered there. If that is the case, OCC will have that option installed by a qualified local contractor. This is just one more advantage of working with Excel Homes and Old Colony Construction you will come to appreciate.
